Hutchins Manufacturing Company

A Letter From the Hutchins Family

Dear Friends,

After 70 years of building tools for working professionals, we're writing to share some important news: Hutchins Manufacturing is stopping production in California — but we are not closing.

Our great-grandparents, Al and Blanche Hutchins, started this company in 1955 — a working-class man from Nebraska and an immigrant from Czechoslovakia. When Al held the first sander he ever made, he said:

"This is a tool a man can make a living with."

Every new employee who walked through our doors heard those words on their first day. That's been our standard for four generations, and it's not stopping now.

The reality is that the cost of manufacturing in California has become something we can no longer make work. Between rising insurance, utilities, taxes, and regulations, staying here means we can't keep doing what we do best — making the tools you rely on, right here in the USA.

So we're making a move. We're actively working to set up manufacturing in the southern United States, where we can get back to building the tools Hutchins is known for.

What this means for you

Repairs, servicing, and warranties continue. Our repair facility in California is up and running, staffed by Hutchins employees. Whether it's a flat rate repair or a warranty claim, we've got you covered. You can submit a repair through our website.

New tool and parts orders are paused while we make this transition. Unfortunately, we're unable to fulfill parts orders at the present time. Existing tool orders will be fulfilled, and we'll reach out directly if there are any issues.

We know this kind of news can be unsettling, especially when you depend on your tools to make a living. We want you to know that we're working hard to come back stronger, and we'll keep you updated as our plans take shape.

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for choosing Hutchins. It's been an honor to build tools for you, and we're not done yet.

With gratitude,

The Hutchins Family
